Reserve Bank of India (1999) read the mother into the father-first language rather than striking it down, so the bare words of HAMA s. 9(2) and Guardians and Wards s. 19(b) are not the operative rule. Maintenance for parents and senior citizens is governed by the 2007 Act, whose monetary cap has since been revisited — check the current figure before relying on one.
